Keyboard Maestro for Voiceover Artists: Automating My Studio Workflow

This is a newer entry in my toolbox. I have used a variety of other small programs that do the same thing that this swiss army knife tackles so I will probably retire a handful of them once I figure all my processes out.

As I have mentioned before, I love to find efficient ways to do repetitive tasks and using keyboard shortcuts has always been one of those methods. Keyboard Maestro takes it to a WHOLE other level because I can create keyboard shortcuts for not only actions within a certain program but also for entire sequences of actions (macros).

Now, I tap a key twice and it runs my “ready to audition” action. This means it

  • opens my audio software,
  • creates a folder in my audition folder,
  • asks me to name the project and
  • saves a raw audio file template into that folder.

I just have to walk into my recording booth and start doing the creative part!

I’m scratching the surface for KM but I have shortcuts to open certain folders, change my desktop layout and visit a certain website every day so I can access credits for that account.

I do loves me some good efficiency on my computer! 🙂

This is a great example of what I call techy-feely! Finding ways to make technology work for us and make us a little happier along the way. Just like how I approach narration projects for corporate, e-learning and medical scripts. Have a project that could use a techy-feely approach? Let’s talk!
