Frequently Asked Questions that are helpful in hiring me as your voice talent
This Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page might help answer some questions you have, if you have never hired a voice actor before or just want to know more about my approach to voiceover.
Of course, if you still have a question that is not addressed here, feel free to reach out!
General FAQs
What types of projects do you specialize in as a voice actor?
My favorite projects live at the intersection of science/technology and art/emotion. I really enjoy medical narration, technical and industrial training content, scientific explainers, e-learning modules, non-fiction audiobooks, and audio dramas. Whether you need a voice that can navigate pharmacokinetics with authority or bring a compelling character to life in an immersive audio drama, By bringing an analytic approach and genuine artistic passion to every project, I get energized. The science excites me as much as the storytelling — and that enthusiasm is something listeners will notice.
Why should I hire a voice actor who specializes in technical and medical content rather than a generalist?
Specialization matters the most when your content contains complex terminology, regulated language, or highly specific industry jargon. A voice actor, like myself, who has coaching and training in medical and technical narration doesn’t just read your script, I understand it. That means fewer retakes, faster turnarounds, accurate pronunciation of technical terms on the first pass, and a delivery that conveys genuine credibility. Your audience, whether they’re surgeons, engineers, pharmaceutical reps, or safety compliance officers, will notice the difference between a voice that sounds confident and one that is confident.
What industries do you serve?
The short answer: if it involves specialized knowledge and a human voice, I’m probably a fit. Industries I regularly work with include:
Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals (patient education, clinical trial explainers, surgical procedure walkthroughs, pharmaceutical training)
Medical Device & Biotech (product demonstrations, IFU narrations, regulatory compliance content)
Engineering & Manufacturing (industrial safety training, equipment operation guides, quality assurance content)
Technology & Software (SaaS product tutorials, user instruction or tutorials, IT training, cybersecurity awareness)
Energy & Environment (oil & gas safety protocols, renewable energy explainers, environmental compliance)
Science & Research (documentary narration, educational content, research institute presentations)
Publishing and Audio Dramas (non-fiction audiobooks, science journalism, technical trade publications)
Wait…Audio Dramas? In addition to technical work? Isn’t that a big contrast?
It’s actually not as different as people assume and that contrast is precisely what makes both better. The background and training required to deliver technically accurate narration with consistency sharpens my character work. And the emotional intelligence and narrative instincts I’ve developed doing audio dramas make my technical narration more engaging, more human, and easier to absorb. A medical e-learning module doesn’t have to feel like reading a textbook. It can have rhythm, pacing, and presence. That’s the “techy-feely” philosophy in action.

Absolutely! I record in a professionally treated, acoustically optimized home studio built specifically for high-end voice work. My signal chain includes:
• A microphone selected to suit your project for detailed, nuanced recordings
• A professional-grade audio interface for clean, low-noise conversion
• Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with industry-standard processing
• Acoustic treatment panels, bass traps, and a microphone screen filter for a clean, noise-free recording environment
I deliver files in WAV, MP3, AIFF, or any format your production pipeline requires, at your specified sample rate and bit depth. Whether you need raw reads or fully edited, mastered files — I can accommodate your workflow. Learn more about both my studio setup and my standard working policies.
Can you work with directed sessions via Source-Connect, Zoom, Cleanfeed, or other remote platforms?
Yes!! And I welcome and enjoy directed sessions. There’s a collaborative energy in real-time direction that brings out the best performance. I’m fully set up for Source-Connect, Zoom, Cleanfeed, or FaceTime for directed sessions. For technical and medical projects especially, having a producer, subject matter expert, and/or client in the session means terminology gets confirmed in real time, direction can fine-tune tone and pacing on the fly, and you leave the session with exactly what you need. No back-and-forth email chains and no guessing.
How do you handle complex terminology or industry jargon?
This is where my background in science education and IT training/leadership genuinely shines. Before recording begins, I do a thorough script analysis which includes identifying unfamiliar terms, researching correct pronunciations from authoritative medical, scientific, and industry-specific sources, and noting any brand names, drug names, chemical compounds, or proprietary terminology that may require your or your client’s confirmation.
I ask for a pronunciation guide when possible so I can prepare quickly and efficiently. For pharmaceutical projects, I can also cross-reference with official FDA drug databases and medical dictionaries. For engineering content, I consult technical standards documentation. I don’t guess…I ask questions and I verify. Your credibility depends on it.
What is your typical turn around time?
Turnaround usually depends on project scope, but here are general benchmarks:
Short-form corporate/e-learning (under 5 min) | 24–48 hours
Medium e-learning or training module (5–20 min) | 2–3 business days
Long-form technical or medical narration | 3–5 business days
Non-fiction audiobook (full length) | Negotiated per project
Audio drama episode | 3–5 business days
Rush projects | Available (rush fees apply)
I build in time for redos and one round of revisions as part of my standard studio policies.
Do you offer custom auditions?
OH YES!! Actually, I encourage them for complex projects. A custom audition lets you hear exactly how I approach your content, your terminology, and your intended audience before you commit. For medical, pharmaceutical, and highly technical scripts, I ask that clients redact any proprietary or confidential information from audition copy and provide a brief about the target audience and desired tone. I take auditions seriously since they’re a creative and professional first impression. You can request a custom audition or a quote by contacting me via email, phone or this online form.
Creative and Collaboration Questions
How do you approach the artistic side of technical narration?
This is my favorite question! Here’s my philosophy in a nutshell: every project has a story! Content may appear dry because the undiscovered storytelling can be a bit bland or dull. After working in the IT field for years, I know that behind every technical document is a human being like a nurse learning a new device, an engineer troubleshooting a system, or a patient trying to understand their diagnosis. When I approach a script, I ask: what does this person need to feel as well as understand?
I then make deliberate choices about pacing, emphasis, warmth, and energy. These choices help me knkow when to sound authoritative and when to sound reassuring. It means treating a well-crafted technical explainer with the same dramatic intentionality as a scene in an audio drama. The science provides the story. My job is to make sure the listener leans in.
How do you work with authors on audiobook projects? What is your process?
Narrating an audiobook is a true partnership, and I approach it that way from day one. My process includes:
– Initial consultation: understanding the author’s vision, intended audience, and desired narrator tone
– A Full manuscript read-through: before recording a single word, I read the entire book to understand its content and emotional journey
– Terminology and pronunciation alignment: I research and create a pronunciation guide. (If you provide me one, EVEN BETTER!)
– 15 minuted checkpoint: a sample section is recorded and approved before full production begins
– Recording: I record each chapter and other materials based on the best practices provided by Audible and other reliable audiobook producers
– Final quality review: Every file reviewed against ACX, Findaway, or distributor-specific technical standards before delivery
– Pickups: After your review, I record any mistakes identified and remaster files
– Delivery: Files are uploaded to ACX or delivered to you in the manner requested
My Audiobook Author Welcome Packet goes into this process in more detail and gives you a good idea of what to expect as we work together on your project.
