What is “techy-feely” anyway? Its been 20 years in the making and I love it!

“Techy-Feely?”
Much like the “ajwms” handle I gave myself, I also coined “tech-feely” (sometimes I call it “t-f” when I was joining all those platforms in the early 2000s. It just made sense and as I explain in my bio, the term really sums up my background and skill in balancing both high tech and high touch or emotion. It is also why I am consistently looking for ways to work effectively and efficiently with the technology. And, I share what I learn and create via the blog here and explaining the Touch Portal app I built for my recording booth.
How techy-feely got started
I bought the domain tech-feely.net back in 2006 (that was before I even had a Gmail account) and started blogging on August 8, 2006. It has been my personal blog since then and I have been trying to define what tech-feely means the whole time. On that blog, the original definition was using both sides of your brain. And that still works. But, I thought then (and still think now) that there is more to it.

The elusive definition of
techy-feely
So, the definition exploration began. I realized that t-f is more than just describing me as a person. it also means finding joy in cool technical projects that have a psychological aspect or creating an art project that involves some form of digital or tech tool (which is why I loved Project 365 so much).
It might have started out as a way to describe myself and how I related to the world. I enjoy art, music, theatre, computer programming, digital audio editing, photography, etc so that term worked. And the blog started out being a place to collect all my links for surfing the web so I would have them in one place. Not sure that was a great use but that was the first use.
Being a techy-feely voice actor
Fast forward twenty years, I have had a great career in education, instructional technology, instructional design, ed tech and IT leadership. Moving into voiceover, I knew that my background would help me both on the technical aspects of creating solid, clean audio as well as finding the story and heart in scripts. I love being able to merge both to provide voiceover for medical, scientific, pharmaceutical and technical narration projects.

I also define it as caring about our planet. So, I am proud to be a part of the Voiceover For the Planet collective and donate at least 1% (really, more than that) to an environmental partner certified by 1% For the Planet. I have been honored to narrate projects that relate to the environment and our interactions with it and am always willing to do more.
The human voice always needs to be part of how we illuminate, celebrate and participate with each other on this planet.
If you book me, 1% of my revenue goes to an environmental partner certified through 1% For the Planet. And, if my voice isn’t the right fit for your project, consider looking at the Voiceover For the Planet roster and find a voice there.
